Αντλώντας έμπνευση από έναν από τους παλαιότερους μύθους της εβραϊκής λαϊκής παράδοσης, η ταινία των Πολ Βέγκενερ και Καρλ Μπέζε εκτυλίσσεται στην Πράγα του 16ου αιώνα, όπου ένας ραβίνος δημιουργεί το Γκόλεμ, ένα γιγαντιαίο ανθρωπόμορφο πλάσμα από πηλό, με σκοπό να προστατεύσει τον εβραϊκό πληθυσμό από τους επικείμενους διωγμούς. Ένα από τα πρώτα λαμπρά δείγματα γραφής των θρυλικών στούντιο της UFA, το The Golem λειτούργησε τόσο ως φωτεινός προάγγελος όσο και ως σκοτεινός οιωνός. Από τη μια, άνοιξε τον δρόμο για τα επόμενα διαμάντια του γερμανικού βωβού σινεμά. Από την άλλη, προειδοποίησε για τον κίνδυνο του αντισημιτισμού, δύο δεκαετίες προτού η ανθρωπότητα βυθιστεί στο πιο πυκνό σκοτάδι.

Η ταινία θα προβληθεί συνοδεία ζωντανής μουσικής από τον Γιάννη Βεσλεμέ.

Drawing inspiration from one of the oldest myths found in the Jewish folklore, the film by Paul Wegener and Carl Boese takes place in 16th-century Prague, where a rabbi creates the Golem, a gigantic anthropomorphic creature made of clay, assigned with the mission to protect the Jewish population from the imminent threat of persecution. One of the first glorious works bearing the signature of the legendary UFA studios, The Golem stood out both as a luminous harbinger and a dark omen. On one hand, it paved the way for the gems of the German silent cinema that were to come. On the other hand, it signaled a warning sign for the dangers of antisemitism, two decades before humanity was immersed in total gloom.

The film will be screened with the accompaniment of a live original score by Yannis Veslemes.
