On May 10, 1996, Finnish rockers, APOCALYPTICA, released their epic debut PLAYS METALLICA BY FOUR CELLOS.
The orchestral rock project, dominated by cello, changed the musical landscape leaving its special mark in history for many years. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, the band re-released it with 3 bonus tracks on July 22, 2016.
New and unreleased, as of then, orchestral performances of "Battery," "Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek & Destroy."
With its release, PLAYS METALLICA BY FOUR CELLOS was a new approach to the success of the biggest metal band of all time. In addition, Apocalyptica created their own musical genre and laid the foundations for a career that has lasted more than 20 years with sales of millions of discs and sold out appearances worldwide.
After delivering over 170 concerts for PLAYS METALLICA BY FOUR CELLOS in 40 countries, Apocalyptica released a live album titled Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos - A Live Performance, including a DVD of their appearance at the Olavinlinna Castle in Finland. Recordings for CDs and vinyls were made in the legendary Tavastia Klubi in Helsinki, Finland.
Apocalyptica continues their appearances on the PLAYS METALLICA BY FOUR CELLOS tour with concerts in the US in 2019 and upcoming PLAYS METALLICA concerts in Europe.
