Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, the most successful duo in UK’s music history is coming to Athens with their impressive “Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live” tour. On the same bill, one of the greatest electronic acts of the last 25 years, Thievery Corporation.
From the day they signed to Parlophone Records, Pet Shop Boys started writing pop music history. The numbers are dazzling: 42 Top-30 singles, 22 Top-10 hits, 4 no 1s, 14 Top-10 albums in the UK charts.
During their lifetime, we’ve seen them create a series of unforgettable tours, their own version of musical theatre, in collaboration with directors, designers and artists such as Derek Jarman, David Alden & David Fielding, Zaha Hadid, Sam Taylor-Wood and Es Devlin. In July 2016, during their exclusive four-date residency entitled “Inner Sanctum” at the Royal Opera House in London, The Independent stated: “Their career has perpetually shown that pop music and high art cannot only co-exist but surpass supposedly superior musical forms”.
“It’s A Sin”, “West End Girls”, “Heart”, “Go West”, “Always On My Mind”, “Love Comes Quickly”, “Domino Dancing”, “What Have I Done To Deserve This”, “Suburbia” and “Being Boring” are just a few of the great songs we’re going to enjoy live on the 30th of June.

Widely renowned as one of the most successful downtempo acts, Thievery Corporation came together when Rob Garza and Eric Hilton met at Washington, in 1995. Sharing a common admiration of Antonio Carlos Jobim, 60s bossanova and jazz, the duet began working by setting two ground rules: never limit themselves to one music genre and never allow anyone outside the group interfere with their music -that’s why from the beginning till this day, they produced, released and distributed their records through their independent music label.
In 1996, they released their groundbreaking debut LP, “Sounds From The Thievery Hi-Fi”, a classic record of the downtempo/trip hop era, which introduces Garza and Hilton as pioneers of the song-based electronic music. An impressive string of releases will follow, like “The Mirror Conspiracy”, the transcendent “Richest Man in Babylon”, “The Cosmic Games” (collaborating with Flaming Lips and David Byrne among others) and the most recent ““The Temple of I & I” and “Treasures from the Temple”, constituting an impressive catalog of a group that have created a truly personal and diverse sound that starts from dub reggae to hip hop and eastern music.
But the reason they remained at the top of the scene all these years, is their live performances. A truly great live act, with a killer band and an array of vocalists from diverse global cultures, Thievery Corporation always offer something different.

From the moment the debut album of his band, Stereo Nova, was released in 1992, nothing would remain the same in the local scene. As a songwriter, K. Bhta, expressed better than anyone else, the life in the urban landscape of Athens, and as a composer, he introduced the local audience to the power of electronic/dance music that was, at the time, at its artistic and commercial peak.
Since Stereo Nova disbanded at the end of the 1990s, he would embark to a new and equally important career as a solo artist, releasing unforgettable records (“Gia Sena Me Agaph”, Agria Xloh”, “Argos” etc.) collaborating with important local musicians (Popi Asteriadi, Dimitra Galani) and creating several special projects like the rework of Manos Xatzidakis’ music in “Transformations” LP. At the same time, he started writing soundtracks to important plays and documentaries (“Angel Baby”, “Agelastos Petra”, “Cleansed” etc.), with the creative and commercial success of “2”, directed and choreographed by Dimitris Papaioannou, being one the most special moments of his career.
With a brand-new record out, called “Neapoly” cowritten with Nikko Patrelakis, K. Bhta will take the stage of Release Athens 2022, to perform his biggest tracks filled with sounds that create a hip hop/IDM digital identity.
