Release Athens 2023 welcomes the electrifying Parkway Drive on Tuesday, June 27, at Plateia Nerou. One of the best bands of modern metal, already headlining the biggest festivals in Europe next summer, in the biggest show they have ever given in our country. Alongside them, Max Cavalera’s Soulfly and Tom Gabriel Fischer’s Triptykon in a special Celtic Frost tribute set focused on the first three releases of the legendary extreme metal band. Skybinder will be the opening act.
Parkway Drive formed in 2003 in Australia and in these two decades we have witnessed a band that started from a home basement grow into a metal behemoth that has released seven studio albums (six of which have gone gold in their home country) and has played countless shows in every corner of the globe.
From the moment Brett Gurewitz (guitarist of Bad Religion) signed them to the legendary Epitaph Records, in 2006, Parkway Drive didn't take long to establish themselves as one of the most important acts in the metalcore scene, with their third album "Deep Blue" (2010) receiving critical appraise and gaining a place among the best releases of 2010, according to the iconic Kerrang! Their next records "Atlas" (2012), "Ire" (2015) and, above all, the amazing Deliverance (2018), proved that the band does not intend to be limited to the confines of metalcore and that we are now talking about one of the top bands of modern metal. Songs like "Wild Eyes", "Darker Still", "Prey", "Crushed", "Glitch", "Swing" and "Wishing Wells" are just a few examples of their original sound that has rightfully led them to the biggest music festivals in the world.
Every performance is fueled with adrenaline, an explosion of energy with furious riffs combined with melody and emotion. Following the release of "Darker Still" last September, Parkway Drive will embark on another massive world tour that will also bring them to Release Athens 2023, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy one of the best and most experienced bands in modern metal at the peak of their career.

There is no doubt anymore that Max Cavalera is one of the most important figures in the scene of the last forty years. He defined numerous metal genres and he’s being a major influence for countless contemporary artists. Soulfly is the band he founded after leaving Sepultura in 1996, and up until now they have released twelve albums together. From their self-titled debut to last year's "Totem", they have managed to combine the groove of Brazilian tradition with extreme metal, while maintaining the raw and authentic atmosphere of a band writing songs in a basement.
Nearly 25 years since Soulfly began, great songs like "Jumpdafuckup", "Back To The Primitive", "Downstroy", "Eye For An Eye", "Ritual" and "Dead Behind The Eyes", along with several classics from Cavalera's career, will vibrate Plateia Nerou on Tuesday, June 27.

Triptykon were formed in May 2008 by Tom Gabriel Fischer (a.k.a. Tom Gabriel Warrior), when mounting tensions within Celtic Frost made the continuation of the legendary extreme metal band impossible. A year later, Fischer began recording "Eparistera Daimones", the band's debut album, which, as to be expected, consisted mostly of material originally intended for the follow up of the masterful "Monotheist" (2006). The album confirmed Fischer's stature as one of the most influential figures in the metal scene.
After a massive world tour, with headline shows at festivals such as Roadburn and Wacken Open Air, Triptykon went back to the studio to record their second album. "Melana Chasmata" was released in 2014 and was not only recognized as one of the top metal albums of the previous decade but redefined what extreme metal means today.
In 2023, the band will return to live performances, few of which will focus exclusively to Celtic Frost material. This Celtic Frost tribute set, scheduled for a very limited number of gigs, will be presented at Release Athens on a monumental night for the heavy metal scene of the last few decades.
On Tuesday, June 27th, we’ll have the privilege to witness live some of the greatest songs that Tom Gabriel Warrior wrote with Celtic Frost, mainly from the band's first three releases ("Morbid Tales", “Emperor’s Return” and "To Mega Therion"), on a night no true metal fan wants to miss.
