“Mr Schitt's nightmare” by Grigoris Mitas
Directed by: Grigoris Mitas
A contemporary Greek play that tackles the issue of gender-based violence.
OPENING: 14 January 2022
VENUE: Lazaristes Monastery – Studio Theatre
Suitable for ages 16+
Like a punch to the stomach, the play sheds light on the unseen side of a social phenomenon that appears to be spiralling out of control. A production that highlights an issue whose ever-growing proportions are a cause of deep concern for contemporary society, which is under an obligation to eradicate and not simply reduce the phenomenon.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PLAY
The action takes place during an audition held by Maki Schitt, an influential, elitist, perverted tyrant who deceives and abuses under cover of Art. The story unfolds in six scenes in the director's “war-room/studio”, a singular “prison” which has grown out of and reflects the sickness in his soul. There, we watch the agony, anxiety and fear of the girls who arrive to audition but who end up suffering his abusive behaviour. Until the roles are reversed, that is, and he himself becomes a victim. Because Mr Schitt receives the supreme punishment through the medium of a terrifying nightmare against which there is no defence…
